Kinect for rehabilitation

Recently many labs tried to implement Kinect sensing device of Microsoft for rehabilitation in one or another way. 
Recently the West Health Institute announced that it has developed the Reflexion Rehabilitative Measurement Tool uses the Kinect technology to not only monitor adherence to a rehab program, but to also track the motions of rehabilitative exercises to ensure that they are done correctly and to measure progress.

Parkinson’s disease is testable with Wii board



The Wii Balance Board is a balance board accessory for the Wii video game console.

Recently, the validity of the Nintendo Wii balance board as a measurement tool for the assessment of postural stability in individuals with Parkinson’s (Clin Rehabil). Obviously, it can be used as a testing tool for other conditions. Today the Wii board is more and more common tool in rehab facilities for motor training.

Another implementation of the board was attempted for gaming purposed, when the sensors of the board were combined with regular shoes. The resulted instrumented shoes could be used as a game controller. The prototype can potentially be used as a measurement tool.

Similar scheme is used in Re-Step™ shoes, but with more sensors per shoe and sophisticated software for the analysis of walking by conventional and non-linear methods.
